Canada immigration 2026: there is no registration to sign up for, here are the real steps

No list opens for people to "register" for Canadian immigration. Each program has its own official process: the real ways in, starting from Cameroon.

"Canada immigration 2026 registration" is one of the searches that rose the most in Cameroon this year. It rests on a false idea: there is no big list you sign up for to immigrate to Canada. Each program has its own process, on an official website. People who sell you a "registration" live off that confusion. Here are the real ways in, checked on canada.ca and quebec.ca on October 17, 2026.

Why there is no general registration

Canada selects its immigrants program by program. For 2026, its plan targets 380,000 new permanent residents, including 9% French speakers outside Quebec, or 30,267 people. These places are not obtained by leaving your name somewhere: they go through Express Entry, Quebec's programs, the provinces or family sponsorship, each with its own conditions and forms.

IRCC makes the point itself: you don't have to hire anyone to apply, and you can get all the forms and information you need for free. No one can guarantee you a job or a visa to Canada.

As for the working holiday program, officially International Experience Canada, it is not open to Cameroonians: Cameroon is not on the list of participating countries.

The first step: IRCC's questionnaires

IRCC offers an online questionnaire, "Explore immigration programs to live, work, or study in Canada", that points you in the right direction depending on what you want to do. For Express Entry, a second questionnaire tells you whether you can enter the pool. Both say so clearly: no immigration decision is made based on your answers. They help you know where to start.

Your IRCC account, the only "registration" there is

The closest thing to a registration is your online account with IRCC. The IRCC secure account, opened with a GCKey, is used for Express Entry and for work and study permits. The IRCC portal is used, among other things, for visitor visas and study permits, and the Permanent residence portal for permanent residence and sponsorship. You create it yourself, on canada.ca.

A genuine IRCC email comes from an address ending in gc.ca or canada.ca. IRCC will never email you to ask for your personal information, and never starts conversations on social media.

Express Entry: the profile, then the invitation

For permanent residence as a skilled worker, the main route is Express Entry. You create an online profile and have 60 days to fill it in and submit it. First you need an approved language test less than two years old, TCF Canada or TEF Canada in French, IELTS, CELPIP or PTE Core in English, and, if you studied outside Canada, an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) less than five years old, from a designated organization such as WES.

The profile stays valid for 12 months. Being in the pool does not guarantee an invitation: IRCC invites the highest-ranked profiles, draw after draw. IRCC's fee list has no fee for the profile; its fees come with the permanent residence application, after the invitation: $1,590 CAD for the principal applicant, processing fee and right of permanent residence fee included. Quebec: Arrima

If you are aiming for Quebec, the process is different: Quebec has a special agreement with Canada and selects its own skilled workers. You start with an expression of interest in Arrima, for the Skilled Worker Selection Program (PSTQ). It is done online, free of charge, stays valid for 12 months, and you have 90 days to complete it. Then come the invitation, the selection application and the Quebec Selection Certificate.

Working or studying first

Many Cameroonians go through a temporary stay first. A work permit generally requires a job offer; the government's job site is open to foreign candidates: /en/article/guichet-emplois-canada-etrangers-permis-travail-ferme For a French speaker, Francophone Mobility spares the employer the labour market impact assessment: /en/article/mobilite-francophone-permis-travail-canada-cameroun A study permit requires an admission and proof of funds: /en/article/permis-etudes-canada-cameroun-fonds-2026

Paying: only IRCC, only online

Government fees are paid online, by card: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, UnionPay, or a Visa or Mastercard debit card. The card does not have to be in your name. IRCC never asks for payment by phone, for a deposit into a personal bank account, or for a transfer through a private money transfer service. A Mobile Money number to "validate your registration" is therefore not official in any way. The other signs of a scam: /en/article/arnaque-immigration-cameroun-reconnaitre
