Getting your profile assessed online: the free questionnaire, question by question
The profile assessment form does one job: it tells us enough about your situation for us to point you to the right route and the cost of the process. It is free and it fills in from a phone.
You will find it here: /en/evaluation.html . Allow three to six minutes. A bar at the top tells you where you are, step by step, out of six.
Only the questions that apply to you
The form adapts to your answers. If you are single, the partner questions never appear. If you have not taken a language test yet, you are not asked for scores. That is why it moves quickly.
If you stop halfway, the page reminds you when you come back: it offers to pick up where you left off, or to start again from scratch. And if you arrive from the score calculator, your answers are carried over automatically, with an invitation to check them.
The six steps
Step 1, you. First name, age, and your WhatsApp number: that is how we will reply, so read it back. Email is optional, but useful if your number changes or carries a typing mistake. A tick box lets you be told by email about every Express Entry draw, free, with one-click unsubscribe.
Step 2, language. Do you hold a valid test, yes or no. A test is valid for two years. If yes, you pick which one, two at most, among TCF, TEF, IELTS, DALF and DELF. Then you enter your scores. Watch out for TEF Canada: listening out of 360, reading out of 300 and the expression papers out of 450, which is the Equivalence ancien score column of your certificate, not the score out of 699. For TCF, comprehension is out of 699 and the expression papers out of 20. For IELTS, bands from 0 to 9. If you tick DALF or DELF, the page warns you that there is no score to enter: for French, IRCC only accepts TCF Canada or TEF Canada.
Step 3, your diplomas. Two at most, the highest and one other if you have it, from secondary school to a doctorate. For each one you are asked the university, the year, the number of transcripts per year of study, and whether you already hold the assessment. If you studied at a private school, give the parent university tied to the diploma.
Step 4, your experience. Is it verifiable, meaning backed by social security records, pay slips or an employment letter? Then the number of years. A free text box lets you explain anything unusual.
Step 5, your family. Marital status, and if your partner is coming with you: their age, diplomas, credential assessments, language test and scores. Then the number of children, whether they are coming with you, and whether you have a direct family member in Canada, meaning a father, mother, brother, sister or child.
Step 6, your history. Have you already filed a visa application for Canada, and what was the answer? If it was refused, copy out the ground given in the letter, even from memory. The page says it plainly: this is the single most useful piece of information in the whole form. A refusal that is handled badly repeats itself, and IRCC will find it in your history anyway.
What you get afterwards
Before sending, you can go back with the Previous button and read your answers again. Then you click Send my request.
The screen confirms receipt by your first name. We come back to you within two hours on WhatsApp, at the number you gave. That window runs during opening hours: Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. A request sent in the evening, at night or on a Sunday is still recorded, and handled as soon as we reopen.
What this form does not replace
It is not an immigration application. Nothing goes to IRCC, and filling it in creates no file with the Canadian government.
It is not a calculator either: it shows you no score on screen. If a figure is what you are after right now, go through the eligibility test and the CRS score first, then come back here for the human reading.
