Proving work experience to IRCC from Cameroon: does CNPS affiliation count?
The IRCC pages we reread do not ask for CNPS affiliation. The documents, CNPS registration and what a contribution statement is for.
No: the IRCC pages we reread do not ask for any CNPS affiliation. They ask you to prove paid work, in the right category of the National Occupational Classification, for long enough. A contribution statement is supporting evidence, not a requirement: the CNPS receives the employer's declaration of its staff and salaries, and a statement from your account can cross-check your letter. Rules read on canada.ca and cnps.cm on 1 November 2026.
What proof of experience does IRCC ask for?
Among the documents you may need when you create your Express Entry profile, IRCC lists "proof of work experience (such as a reference or experience letter from an employer)". That is an example, not a closed list. Its page on supporting documents adds employment contracts, pay stubs and tax documents. It accepts employer letters that give your job duties, the dates you worked there and your salary.
The experience must also meet the Federal Skilled Worker Program criteria: a job in TEER category 0, 1, 2 or 3, with the same NOC as your primary occupation, where you performed the actions in the NOC lead statement and most of the main duties. It must be from the last 10 years and be paid: volunteer work and unpaid internships do not count. It must last at least one year of continuous work, or 1,560 hours, which is 30 hours a week.
If you cannot get a document, or it is taking longer to get it, IRCC allows a letter explaining why, with supporting items such as receipts, uploaded in place of the document. The officer may then ask for more information, give you more time, consider the application complete without that document, or decide on the documents received.

Do you need CNPS affiliation for your experience to count?
According to these pages, no. The Express Entry documents page, the supporting documents page and the Federal Skilled Worker Program page mention neither the CNPS nor any social security scheme. The Program page requires wages or commission actually received, without mentioning the method of payment. The officer judges whether the work is proven: letter, contract, pay, length, duties. This does not mean an application will be accepted, and we do not assess a personal case in an article.
How does CNPS registration work?
According to cnps.cm, the employer must register the worker within 8 days of hiring. The worker's file contains a registration request, a hiring notice on the CNPS form and a certified copy of the birth certificate or national identity card. An employer of professional labour has its own file: a request on the form, the trade register or articles of association, a valid business licence (patente), the taxpayer card, a location plan and the staff list.
You register with the CNPS only once, and the number stays with you for your whole working life. After that, the system is declarative: the employer files the staff and salary declaration online, pays the contributions through an approved bank or financial institution, then has a receipt issued at the Centre de prévoyance sociale it belongs to.
What if your employer never registered you?
cnps.cm says a worker can start their own registration when the employer defaults, or report the employer to the CNPS for an investigation, with the secrecy of the step guaranteed. Sworn CNPS agents also register on their own initiative any unregistered workers they find during the employer's investigation or inspection operations. cnps.cm does not say whether a registration made today can cover past periods: do not count on it to build proof after the fact, and never present an undeclared period as declared.
What is a contribution statement for in an IRCC file?
The CNPS receives the employer's declaration of its staff and salaries and, according to its FAQ, keeps a "career history" for workers. Nothing on cnps.cm says it records your duties. A statement from your account can cross-check the letter, depending on what it shows: employer, periods, declared salaries. IRCC does not list it among its examples, and it does not replace the letter. Its dates must match those in the letter: a gap weakens both documents. The consistency tool compares them before you send anything: File consistency
On the pages we read, the exact name of this document does not appear: none titled "attestation de cotisations" is presented for the worker. cnps.cm describes an "Espace assuré (compte individuel)" with account statements and contribution histories. Its FAQ gives other names. In the pension file, insured persons' affiliation certificates and career history "can be drawn from the Sapelli application", without the FAQ saying that the worker receives them. An "attestation de validation précaire des cotisations sociales" is provided for people joining the civil service. What the Centre de prévoyance sociale hands to an employee is not specified on these pages: ask the centre you belong to.
