How long does the process take?

The honest answer: it depends on your profile and on IRCC's draws. The preparation phase — language test, credential assessment, proof of funds — usually takes a few months; after an invitation to apply (ITA), IRCC processes most permanent residence applications in around six months. Be wary of anyone who promises you a precise date: nobody controls IRCC's timelines.
