Canada permanent residence and visa fees in 2026, in CFA francs

For a visa, permit or permanent residence application, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) charges fees set in Canadian dollars (CAN$). They are the same whether you live in Douala, Yaoundé, Garoua or Bamenda. We checked them on 17/09/2026 on IRCC's official fee list.

The rate used for CFA francs

The CFA franc (FCFA) is pegged to the euro: 1 euro = 655.957 FCFA. On 16/09/2026, the European Central Bank (ECB) reference rate was 1 euro for CAN$1.6082. One Canadian dollar is therefore worth about 408 FCFA. Our equivalents use this rate and are rounded to the nearest thousand. For today's rate, use our tool: /en/check-list.html#couts

Permanent residence: the fees in force since 30 April 2026

They apply to economic immigration, including Express Entry. The principal applicant pays a CAN$990 processing fee, about 404,000 FCFA at the 16/09/2026 rate. On top of that comes the right of permanent residence fee (RPRF): CAN$600, about 245,000 FCFA. That makes CAN$1,590, about 649,000 FCFA. The amount is the same for an accompanying spouse or common-law partner. Each dependent child adds CAN$270, about 110,000 FCFA, with no RPRF.

The RPRF can be paid later, when IRCC approves the application, but you only become a permanent resident once it is paid. IRCC suggests paying it with the processing fee to avoid delays.

In 2025, before the 30 April 2026 increase, applicants paid CAN$950 in processing fees, CAN$575 for the RPRF and CAN$260 per child.

Visitor visa, study permit, work permit

Cameroonians need a visitor visa, also called a temporary resident visa, to come to Canada. It costs CAN$100 per person, about 41,000 FCFA at the 16/09/2026 rate. A family pays no more than CAN$500, about 204,000 FCFA, if everyone applies at the same time and place and the children qualify as dependants.

A study permit costs CAN$150, about 61,000 FCFA. A work permit costs CAN$155, about 63,000 FCFA. An open work permit adds the CAN$100 open work permit holder fee: CAN$255 in total, about 104,000 FCFA.

Biometrics

Biometrics, meaning your fingerprints and photo, cost CAN$85 per person, about 35,000 FCFA at the 16/09/2026 rate. A family applying at the same time pays no more than CAN$170, about 69,000 FCFA. Children under 14 and people over 79 are exempt. In Cameroon, biometrics are given at the visa application centre in Yaoundé, the only one IRCC lists. The appointment is free: do not pay anyone for it.

Some totals: a visitor visa with biometrics comes to CAN$185, about 75,000 FCFA. For a single person, permanent residence comes to 990 + 600 + 85 = CAN$1,675, about 683,000 FCFA. For a couple with one child: 990 + 600 + 990 + 600 + 270 + 170 = CAN$3,620, about 1,477,000 FCFA.

Where and how to pay

These fees are paid online, on IRCC's website, never to a middleman. IRCC accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB and UnionPay credit and prepaid cards, as well as Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard. The receipt is emailed to you: include a copy with your application. Keep a prepaid card for at least 18 months in case of a refund. Government of Canada employees will never ask you to deposit money into a personal bank account or to send money through a private money transfer service.

What is refunded

If you withdraw your application before processing starts, you get everything back. Once processing has started, application fees are no longer refunded, even if the application is refused. The RPRF is the exception: it is refunded if you withdraw or if the application is refused. A refund can take 2 to 8 weeks.

The next adjustment

Permanent residence fees are adjusted every two years. As of 17/09/2026, IRCC has published neither the date of the next adjustment nor any upcoming change for visas, permits or biometrics.
